In the heart of Le Grau-du-Roi, the Seaquarium Institut Marin is a must-see outing for discovering the riches of the marine world as a family. Located on Avenue du Palais de la Mer, it offers a fun, educational tour through the Mediterranean seabed, tropical seas and the vast open ocean.
Colourful fish, moray eels, rays, turtles, sharks, seals and sea lions are all revealed during the visit. The various tanks let you observe a wide range of species up close and better understand the challenges of protecting the oceans.
Sharks, seals and sea lions
One of the highlights of the visit is the Requinarium, a space devoted to sharks and their essential role in the balance of marine ecosystems. The Seaquarium also has areas dedicated to seals and sea lions, very popular with children and adults alike.
The visit can easily take one to two hours, depending on the time you spend at the aquariums and information areas. It is an excellent activity when the weather is less suited to the beach, and also a refreshing outing during the summer heat.
Just steps from the beach
The Seaquarium is particularly well located: the beach is only 50 metres away, right next to the Palais de la Mer. It is therefore very easy to combine a visit to the aquarium with a swim, a seaside walk or a break in the restaurants and ice cream parlours of Le Grau-du-Roi.
