Departing from Anduze, the Cévennes Steam Train offers a timeless escape through wild, unspoilt landscapes. Aboard old carriages pulled by a historic locomotive, young and old cross the Gardons valley between Anduze and Saint-Jean-du-Gard, in an authentic and charming atmosphere.
This 13 km tourist line follows an old Cévennes railway. The journey lets you admire the valleys, rivers, cliffs and typical vegetation of the Cévennes, watching the scenery go by at the pace of the train.
A journey at the pace of steam
More than just a means of transport, the train is an experience in itself. The sound of the locomotive, the plumes of steam and the crossing of bridges and tunnels give this trip a unique atmosphere, particularly loved by children and railway heritage enthusiasts.
The journey takes about 40 minutes between Anduze and Saint-Jean-du-Gard. Once there, you can explore the Cévennes village, wander its narrow streets, have lunch or enjoy the various activities on offer depending on the period.
A stop at La Bambouseraie
The Cévennes Steam Train also serves La Bambouseraie station in Générargues. This stop makes it easy to combine the train journey with a visit to one of the most beautiful gardens in France, known for its giant bamboo, exotic gardens and shady areas.
You can get off at La Bambouseraie, enjoy the visit, then catch a later train to continue your journey. As connection times change with the day and the season, it is important to plan your route in advance.
Opening hours and prices
The train usually runs from April to the end of October, with operating days and departures that vary with the season. At busy times, several return trips run during the day; it is advisable to book online, especially for weekends and holidays.
For the 2026 season, a return ticket costs €17.50 per adult and €13.50 per child aged 4 to 12. A single costs €14 for adults and €11.50 for children. Family tickets are available from €58 for two adults and two children; a €4.50 supplement applies for a dog or a bike.
