Sommières – Gard – Occitanie

Tree-top adventure at the Roc de Massereau

About 20 min by car, to combine with the Ambrussum archaeological site

Between Nîmes and Montpellier, on the edge of Sommières, the Roc de Massereau is a large tree-top adventure park set in a Natura 2000 area on the banks of the Vidourle. With nearly 260 challenges, more than 50 zip lines and 21 courses, it bills itself as the largest tree-top adventure park in the South of France.

Whether it is a gentle stroll through the trees or an adrenaline rush in the treetops, everyone goes at their own pace, with views of the river and the old railway bridge. Young and old stay clipped on from start to finish thanks to a continuous safety line: no need to manage your own belay.

Courses for all ages

From age 3, children move along three green courses about one metre off the ground, with parents able to help them from below. Afterwards they can climb from hut to hut on the tree-house course, open without a harness when accompanied by an adult, all the way to a big net to jump on.

The courses get progressively harder and higher. As optional extras, four thrill courses await the bravest, including a giant zip line of more than 220 metres crossing the river from the Gard into the Hérault, and the Roc’n’Jump, a leap from a platform 14 metres above the water, from age 10.

A stop at Ambrussum

About ten kilometres from the park, the Ambrussum archaeological site also overlooks the Vidourle. You walk along a remarkably well-preserved stretch of the Via Domitia, the great Roman road that linked Italy to Spain, before heading down to admire the arch of the Pont Ambroix.

The site is open freely and free of charge all year round, and its museum displays the objects found during the excavations. A lovely way to round off the day with a walk among ancient heritage and garrigue scrubland.

Opening hours and prices

The park is open from April to October. In July and August, it welcomes visitors every day from 10 am to 7 pm. In May and June, it is open from 10.30 am to 6.30 pm on Sundays, public holidays, long weekends and school holidays, and from 1.30 pm to 6.30 pm on Saturdays. In April, September and October, it opens from 1.30 pm to 6.30 pm at weekends, on public holidays, long weekends and school holidays. Wednesday afternoons are possible by booking, and opening hours are adjusted to the weather: check them before you set off.

Admission to the courses costs €24 from age 15, €19 for ages 6 to 14 and €16 for ages 3 to 5, with €1 off per person for families of 4 or more. Allow about 2 hrs 30 min on the courses; companions who do not climb pay €2. As the park has no drinking water supply, bring a water bottle, closed shoes and, if you like, your picnic.
