A beach that is still wild
A few minutes from Le Grau-du-Roi, the beaches of L'Espiguette offer spectacular scenery of sea, fine sand and great wind-sculpted dunes. Listed as a Grand Site de France, this protected natural area stretches along nearly 10 kilometres of coast, with no buildings on the seafront.
It is the ideal place for a day of swimming, lazing or walking beside the Mediterranean. Lovers of wide open spaces will enjoy its wild atmosphere, white dunes and the typical landscapes of the Gard Camargue. The site is also popular for water sports, especially kitesurfing and surfing.
Fragile and remarkable, L'Espiguette deserves to be explored with respect for its wildlife, plants and exceptional environment.
Access and parking
L'Espiguette beach is reached mainly via the Route de l'Espiguette.
The Baronnets natural parking area is free from October to March, but charges from 1 April to 30 September to help preserve this protected natural site. In season, allow €7 per day for a car. Pedestrians and cyclists have free access, with a dedicated area for parking bikes.
A free car park is also still available near the Espiguette campsite, but it takes just under fifteen minutes on foot through the dunes to reach the sea.
L'Espiguette lighthouse
Nearby, don't miss L'Espiguette lighthouse. Built in the heart of the dunes more than 150 years ago, it offers an exceptional panorama from the top over the Mediterranean, the long wild beaches and the landscapes of the Camargue. Visiting the tower requires a booking, while the lighthouse garden is freely accessible.
