Visiting Anduze

About 55 min by car from our accommodation, ideal to combine with the Bambouseraie and the Cévennes steam train

Looking for accommodation near Anduze for your holiday? In Lunel-Viel, 55 minutes from the town, our accommodation with pool welcomes 4 to 12 guests: ideal for discovering Anduze and the Cévennes, then enjoying Montpellier, Nîmes and the beaches.

Nicknamed the Gateway to the Cévennes, Anduze nestles at the foot of two rocks, Saint-Julien and Peyremale, between which the Gardon river has carved its course. An authentic little town that young and old will love. Here are the places not to miss.

The Pagoda fountain and the Place Couverte

Donated in 1649 by a town consul, a silk merchant charmed by the architecture of the East, the Pagoda fountain and its glazed-tile roof are the emblem of the town.

Right next to it, the Place Couverte, built in 1457, once hosted the grain and chestnut market: its covered hall still houses the local market, surrounded by fine old houses.

The clock tower

Built in the 14th century as a watchtower, the clock tower received its clock in 1569. This new role saved it when Richelieu ordered the ramparts to be torn down after the Peace of Alès, in 1629.

Its sundial shows the time every quarter of an hour between 11 am and 1 pm. All around, the Plan de Brie square and its restaurants are lively all year round.

The Anduze vase

Anduze is the home of the famous Anduze vase. Legend has it that in 1610, at the Beaucaire fair, a potter from the Cévennes found inspiration in Medici-style pottery.

Recognisable by its garlands and medallions, it is still made using traditional techniques by the potters of the Anduze Vase Route, several of whose workshops are open to visitors.

The lanes and the Peyremale rock

Rue Droite, Rue Notarié, Rue de la Bouquerie: the lanes lead from square to square, from the Pradier fountain to the Grand Temple, built between 1820 and 1823.

For the view, set off up the Peyremale rock (7 km, about 2 hours) or enjoy the cool of the Parc des Cordeliers and its 4 hectares of remarkable trees. In summer, the night market livens up the town every Tuesday evening.

A stop at the Bambouseraie and the steam train
