Visiting Palavas-les-Flots

About 30 min by car from our accommodation, ideal to combine with Le Lamparo in Carnon

Looking for accommodation near Palavas-les-Flots for your holiday? In Lunel-Viel, 30 minutes from the resort, our accommodation with pool welcomes 4 to 12 guests: ideal for enjoying the beaches of Palavas-les-Flots, then discovering Montpellier, Nîmes and the Camargue.

A former fishing village surrounded by nine lagoons, Palavas-les-Flots combines beaches, a lively canal and unspoilt nature, with flamingos as neighbours. Here are the places not to miss.

The Phare de la Méditerranée

A converted former water tower, the Phare de la Méditerranée towers over the resort and lights up in several colours at nightfall.

On the 11th floor, the panoramic view stretches over the sea, the lagoons and the rooftops (lift: €3 per adult, €1 per child aged 3 to 12). On the 12th floor, a revolving restaurant welcomes you by reservation.

The canal and the Transcanal

The Lez river runs through the resort to the sea. Fishing is the oldest tradition here: you can choose your fish straight from the fishermen’s quay.

To cross from one bank to the other, try the Transcanal and its red and yellow seats hanging above the water, billed as the smallest cable car in the world.

The lagoons and the flamingos

Palavas-les-Flots is surrounded by nine natural lagoons, separated from the Mediterranean by a thin strip of sand, covering 7,577 hectares.

Flamingos have found refuge here: real stars, to watch with the family on walks between canals, lagoons and coastline.

The Redoute de Ballestras

In the middle of the Parc du Levant, an islet on the lagoon is home to the reconstruction of an old fort: the Redoute de Ballestras.

It houses the museum dedicated to the cartoonist Albert Dubout, reached on foot through the Parc du Levant.

The beaches

Fine sandy beaches stretch out on either side of the canal, a stone’s throw from the centre: swimming, surfing, diving and a municipal water sports centre for the sporty.

Families love the wide stretches of sand, and Sarrail beach is equipped for people with disabilities.

About 4 km away, on a peninsula between sea and lagoons, Maguelone cathedral has been a listed historic monument since 1840.

Surrounded by vineyards and lagoons, it makes a lovely walk or bike ride from Palavas.

A stop at Le Lamparo, in Carnon
